Im with Jesus

This is a good time for Americans to think about strategies to fix things. With 65% of U.S. citizens unhappy about having to pick from one of the current two major candidates, there is a lot of conversation happening about the future hopes of the American political system. In the U.S. though, the designs of electoral colleges, super-delegates, Citizens United, and non-Rank Choice Voting make it nearly impossible for a true revolutionary to deliver positive change from the White House. But in our personal lives we can start a revolution: right here – right now.

This political season we will make our picks for President according to our consciences. But we should also remember that the way to systemic change is to be the change we want to see. We can’t advance by just outsourcing our hope to politicians. Our elected officials can help, but we have to be that 3rd way, day-in and day-out, especially now.

I try to base my decisions on the moral teachings and example of Jesus as one guidepost, and if he were running for President it might look like the following:

Jesus Political Capture 2

Now of course Jesus isn’t running for President, and he probably wouldn’t even if he were here today, so we have to select from what the oligarchy is allowing us to choose from this year. But we can still make a decision as a society to join the Jesus platform in spirit, and make the transformations we want on a personal level. And to demand our leaders stop feeding into income inequality, military world dominance, and prioritization of the privileged.

So we don’t need to put all our hope in either of the major Presidential candidates. Our hope can be in you and me living in a way that is consistent with teachings and examples of great moral leaders like Jesus. We are the one’s we’ve been waiting for. Revolution rests on us no matter who is in Washington the next 4 years.
